Select a Keeper

July 26, 2009

So lets start at the Goalkeeper position.

I think this is one of the easier positions to select so maybe the bench question may become more relevant. The options are.

  • James Pullen
  • Jack Turner
  • David Wilkinson
  • Sebb Brown
  • Another Keeper
  • And for the bench not having a keeper.

James Pullen – James has seen back to back promotions with us and whilst the strikers were getting all the praise last season a lot of people will say his penalty save away at Weston-Supa-Mare in March went along way to us winning the championship has a lot of experience playing at various levels.

Jack Turner – Last years reserve keeper and one thing is clear he’s been at growing school since last season.

David Wilkinson – As a keeper on trial during pre-season it must be very hard to show what you can do. David played part of the game against Brighton.

Sebb Brown – Sepp has played a number of the pre-season games so maybe still in the running for some sort of involvement?

Another Keeper – Will Terry and Stuart find another keeper who can bust their way into the squad?

You need to click vote before voting for the sub.

Now you have selected your starting keeper what do you think about having a keeper on the bench & if so who should it be? You have the same options as before but this time please exclude your starting keeper choice. I have also added another option.

No Keeper on the bench – We have 5 subs on the bench is it worth naming a keeper as one of these or do we need to use all 5 for outfield players.

Over the next 10 days we will build up our selected squad and then see how close we were to what Terry, Stuart & Simon select for the huge game against Luton

New season round the corner

July 26, 2009

With the new season under two weeks away, I thought it would be a good idea to do a series of articles on the how people think the starting line up will look for the first game of the season against Luton Town on Saturday 8th August 2009.

Looking at the pre-season games so far it appears to me that this season we could well have a regular pool of about 18 players and any of them could be in the starting line up each week. Terry Brown has already commented on the fact the first two months of the season will see us play 14 matches and so a huge amount of rotation may well take place.

If you sit down with a bit of paper and try and select a starting XI you will most probably finish it and think that looks good and the all of a sudden think hold on I have missed out that player and this one, then if you want them to be included you have to work out who will drop down to make room for them.

So if we presume we are going to play a traditional 4-4-2 formation as well as a keeper who would you choose, and would you have a keeper on the bench?
